More details

Aldo Minella, born in Milan in 1939, began studying the guitar at the early age of 4, under his father’s guidance. The musical climate in the Minella family, with two brothers playing the violin and one the piano, was extremely favourable to his general musical development. He continued studying the guitar with Miguel Abloniz and completed his training in the other musical disciplines at the “Giuseppe Verdi“ Conservatory in Milan. By the age of 16 he won an international guitar competition; the following year he met Segovia for the first time at the Academia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, thus initiating a long and fruitful musical experience with the Maestro. Granted with scholarships, he continued his successive studies in Segovia’s “ Master Classes “ at Siena, Santiago de Compostela, Berkeley, and Winston Salem. It was during the 1964 Berkeley Master Class that he made his
American concert debut in the Hertz Hall of the University of California.

Aldo Minella has concertized in Europe and the United States, appearing also on radio and television and in concertos with orchestra. “He is an artist of rare sensitivity and style“, writes the Washington Evening Star, adding “his control of dynamics in particular is absolutely outstanding, with a pianissimo sound that in breathtaking. It is the sort of unusual dynamic control that Vladimir Ashkenazy is noted for at the piano and a feat that few artists achieve“.
