Giovanni D’Anzi’s music has accompanied the history of Milan in the last decades, being in fact the “sound-track” of the city, interwined with the lives of Milan’s musicians. Especially its jazz players. For this reason, when the Town Council asked the organizers of the summers festivals to take inspirations from personalities who had a particular significance in the city’s history, our thoughts went to D’Anzi whose works, being derived from the American “song” were particulary suitable for a jazz-style reinterpretation. The musicians included in the “I Remember D’Anzi” review programmed as part of the “Milano d’estate” festival, were chosen from different generations of pianists, all of outstanding importance in the landscape of italian jazz. Each musician was asked to play one of D’Anzi’s songs toghether with some of his own compositions; the result is this album, all recorded Live, except for the universally renewed “oh mia bela Madunina”, recorded in studio: it was not possible to forget, in a compilation dedicated to the Milanese composer, his most famous and beloved creation.
